Set Firefox to "fire up" automatically

Step 1: Ensure Firefox is set to use automatically when you follow a link.

During installation, you probably followed prompts to set Firefox as your default browser. Check your settings:

  • In Firefox, go to "Tools"
  • Select "Options"
  • Select "General"
  • Check the in the "default browser" section
  • OK

Step 2: Change your Notes settings to use Firefox for browsing

Now that you are using Firefox as your default browser, change your settings in Lotus Notes so Web links in e-mails and databases open in the new browser as well:

  • From Notes, select File > Mobile > Edit Current Location
  • Open the "Internet Browser" tab
  • Choose "Other" from the list of options and browse using the flashlight icon
  • From the drop-down menu in the pop-up box, select "Local Disk C"
  • Select "Program Files"
  • Choose "Mozilla Firefox"
  • Select the "Firefox.exe" - press "Select"
  • OK to save and close

Step 3: Confirm Firefox correctly lists "Lotus Notes" as your e-mail tool

BluePages and other tools will occasionally include links to e-mail addresses and other mail functions. Firefox should automatically set this up correctly. But if you have multiple e-mail applications and would like to ensure links open in the correct e-mail tool (Lotus Notes), check your Windows settings:

(Note: these directions are for Windows XP - other OS instructions can be found on the Internet)

  • Select Start > Control Panel > Add or remove programs
  • Select the "Set Program Access and Defaults" button
  • Select the drop-down next to the "Custom" option
  • Scroll down to e-mail and select your preference (most IBMers will have "Use my current e-mail program" selected - this should be Lotus Notes)
  • OK to save and close
  • Read the Mozilla site for more information or if it doesn't seem to work properly.
